L’urbanistica nelle Università

The 2017 edition of SEWING A SMALL TOWN will focus on the socio-economic and architectural regeneration of two historical settlements on the hills near the city of Turin. The hilltowns of Bussolino and Bardassano represent two examples of a specific cultural way to build on and with territory. This region is also included in the UNESCO-MaB hill named “Collina Po Man and Biosphere Reserve”.
The projects of the summer school will deal with architectural and territorial issues according the two respective scales: the regional scale will draw up a simplified territorial plan in order to set the connections of the two hilltowns with Gassino Torinese, Chivasso and Turin; the architectural scale will focus on the reuse of several buildings according to the existing situation by investigating the delicate relationship between innovation and conservation of the built forms.

SEWING A SMALL TOWN is open to a maximum of 30 participants, students or graduates in architecture (Bachelor or Master), Ph.D. students and architects less than thirty years old, selected through the evaluation of curriculum vitae, motivation letter and portofolio by a scientific committee. The activities consist of theoretical evening courses and a design workshop.

By April 30, 2017, through the online submission procedure available, applicants are requested to send a PDF file, max 10 MB, including a CV, a motivation letter and a portfolio, making sure to include the following mandatory information: name, surname, date of birth, educational background, email address, home address, phone number, Skype contact.

The results of research in urban morphology describe historic cities as urban organisms whose survival, transformation and management needs design-based complex actions to be investigated by analytical tools integrating different knowledge.
Architecture, History, Geography are speculative discipline and provide useful tools to properly direct architectural projects, whether they are conceived or not in continuity with the urban and architectural language of the traditional existing context.
Preserve and renovate the historic cities and the historical urban tissues should be a new focus of urban policies and of those entrepreneurs and conservation professionals which have identified the abandonment of these urban realities as the emerging political and economic dynamics.
The scope of the conference is to collect studies, research, design and methodological reflections on contemporary architecture, urban contexts and historical building, directing the outcome to the definition of operational tools useful for a aware and contemporary design.
In recent years the reuse, the recovery, the architectural transformation of urban fabric are among the most practiced topic of the international architectural culture based both on open interpretations or limited to the aspect of conservation.
The conference will be an opportunity to discuss on contemporary design in the historic city, on tools and research methods to be applied to these architectural dynamic realities, and on operational tools used for designing such meaningful anthropological spaces.

La Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Architettonici e del Paesaggio, in collaborazione con il Hakhamanesch Pars Studies and Communication Institute (HPSCI) e la Islamic Azad University - sede di Damghan (Iran) - ospita la Prima Conferenza Internazionale di Architettura, Urbanistica e Restauro, che si terrà a Roma il 19 gennaio 2017, e il relativo Workshop, dal titolo Le città: futuro del passato, che si svolgerà dal 20 al 21 gennaio 2017.

Avvio del corso di eccellenza del Prof. Di Teodoro F., DAD.

La prima lezione dal titolo Colosseo e dintorni. Tutela e valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale sarà tenuta dal Prof. Daniele Mancorda, Università degli Studi Roma Tre, ordinario di Metodologia della ricerca archeologica .

Dibattito seminariale con il Collegio di dottorato e con i dottorandi.

La lezione del prof. Manacorda sarà preceduta da un seminario preparatorio per i dottorandi lunedì 13 giugno 2016, alle ore 14,00, Sala della Caccia, Castello del Valentino.

Juan Calatrava, Professore di Storia dell’Arte dell’Universidad di Granada, terrà una conferenza dal titolo Città storica e festa contemporanea: nuovi ruoli dei festival urbani.

All’interno delle attività di divulgazione del progetto di ricerca Stress METRICS, giovedì 7 aprile 2016 alle ore 9.00 presso la Sala Rari della Biblioteca di Area Architettura a Palazzo Gravina, si svolgerà il Seminario di studi "Approcci integrati per l’analisi e il recupero dei centri storici. Tra morfologia e costruzione".

During the last decades Xi’an fast development has eroded the surrounding countryside, threatening the rural landscape along with the cultural relics and heritage suburban sites. In the name of the new international metropolis blueprint, Xi’an heritage sites that are still lying within rural areas are increasingly surrounded by the built-up environment.
The traditional urban fabric within the celebrated city walls, in turn, has long since been sacrificed in the need of a higher density, although the discovery of the Terracotta Army has promoted an early sensibility in planning for heritage protection issues, proved by the first Protection Plan in the 80s. As one of the world’s four ancient capitals, Xi’an started to cultivate its distinctive cultural role among Chinese cities.
From then on, progresses have been done to develop historical knowledge and to integrate different concepts and models for protection and enhancement of heritage sites in the city planning. The Exhibition shows the whole planning and design process carried out by Xi’an City Planning & Design Department, from the first master plan in 1951 to the present one, and portrays the Chinese troublesome concept of heritage.
As cultural heritage resources are starting to be perceived as the character-defining feature for Xi’an cultural role, they may become the very structure of an overall design strategy for cultivating quality and sustainable development.
Xi’an next challenge will be to bridge the gulf between single protected sites and their vulnerable settings, facing the issues of quality, regeneration and enhancement of the whole urban/rural landscape.

Il caso studio individuato per lo svolgimento del workshop intende riflettere sul tema generale del rapporto tra città d’arte e forme del turismo attraverso il caso specifico di Venezia. Si tratta di un tema di grande rilievo sociale ed economico eppure, in parte anche a causa della complessità che lo connotano, scarsamente presente nei temi didattici abitualmente affrontati dalle scuole di architettura.

Si è recentemente inaugurata la mostra dal titolo Martina in Assonometria. Survey in progress, esito parziale di un’ampia attività di rilievi condotti nel centro storico della città, dal prof. Gabriele Rossi e dall’architetto Massimo Leserri.
La mostra costituisce la testimonianza ancora tangibile di un luogo unico nel suo genere e dai connotati eccezionali. Il rilievo e le sue rappresentazioni - qui si privilegia la visione assonometrica - sono base documentaria per una serie di possibili iniziative, di interventi, progetti, attività di tutela, salvaguardia e valorizzazione con oggetto il centro storico.
